With great religious enthusiasm, the residents of Mysuru have started the preparation for the famous Dasara festival with arrival of elephants to Mysuru Palace. Elephants participating in this year’s low-key Dasara festivities began their journey to Mysuru on September 13 with the traditional ‘Gajapayana’ being flagged off at Veerana Hosahalli on the outskirts of Nagarahole near Hunsur. The decorated elephants, led by 58-year-old Abhimanyu who will carry the golden howdah, left for Mysuru after priests from Mysuru performed puja amidst showering of flowers on the jumbos. Mysore-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha flagged off the ‘Gajapayana’ (march of the elephants) in the presence of Hunsur MLA H.P. Manjunath, Deputy Commissioner Bagadi Gautham, Deputy Conservator of Forests K. Karikalan and senior officials. Mysuru Dasara (Dussehra) is celebrated for 10 days. The famous Mysuru Palace is lit up, making for a stunning sight.
