Girls apologise after dance video outside Talacauvery temple goes viral

Thursday, December 02, 2021

Three teenage girls who last week recorded an Instagram reel while dancing to a Hindi film song outside Talacauvery temple in Brahmagiri Hills on Tuesday apologised on social media for the video after being heavily criticised for alleged inappropriate behaviour at a holy place.

The girls clad in salwar kameez, who had playfully danced to the song Matargashti from the film Tamasha outside the temple gate, said in their apology that they had no ill intention in mind and hadn’t meant to insult anyone. “We unknowingly, without any bad intention, had danced. However, when we came to know that such an act is not allowed in the pilgrim centre and also it hurt the feelings of the Kodava community, Kodava Samaj members and Cauvery devotees, we apologise for our act and we will not do such things in future.”

Social media accounts of the girls were flooded with messages from residents who demanded that they delete the video. Further, the Akhila Kodava Samaj released a statement demanding that they apologise and remove the video, warning of a police complaint.

Following these developments, the girls posted a video apologising to the Kodava community and the devotees of the River Cauvery. They stated that the video was not meant to hurt the sanctity of the place and it has now been taken down.
