6 lane highway from Srirangapatna-Kushalnagar

Friday, February 19, 2021

The widening of Srirangapatna-Kushalnagar highway (part of Bengaluru-Madikeri stretch) will begin next year, announced Mysuru MP Pratap Simha.

While the Bengaluru-Mysuru will have a 10-lane highway (six-lane expressway and four-lane service roads on either sides), the Mysuru-Madikeri portion will be a six-lane road (from the existing two-lane road) till Basavanahalli near Kushalnagar.

“Once this road is completed, it will provide seamless connectivity between Bengaluru-Mysuru and Kodagu. Another highlight of this project is that it will completely create a new bypass for Mysuru as there will be a deviation (Greenfield Road) from Srirangapatna (near Bommuru Agrahara). The project also involves passes to towns like Kushalanagar, Kampalapura, Piriyapatna and Hunsur,” Simha said.

Currently, those heading from Bengaluru to Madikeri must go either via Mysuru city, Mysuru ring road or via Srirangapatna-KRS road and then take a deviation. The current travel time between Bengaluru to Madikeri is around 7.5 hours and NHAI officials claim that the travel time will reduce to five hours once the new road is in place (along with the proposed 10-lane Bengaluru-Mysuru highway). This project is estimated to cost Rs 3,120 crore.

The new road will be carved out from Bommuru Agrahara (near Srirangapatna) which will join the current Bengaluru-Mysore-Kushalnagar road near Hunsur-Gonikoppal road.
