The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) invited tenders for Mysuru-Madikeri four lane highway project. Tender is floated for the stretch between Mysuru and Kushalanagar as first phase and the link between Kushalanagar and Madikeri is currently on hold. The project is expected to be launched in April-May this year. The project – after necessary land acquisition and approvals – should be ready in two years. Instead of expanding the existing Mysuru-Kushalanagar road, the Mysuru-Madikeri Economic Corridor Expressway Project, as it is officially called, will be developed on a new route with bypasses over Periyapatna, Hunsur, Bilikere and Mysuru. The Madikeri project will bring down the travel time between Srirangapatna Cross (in Mandya district) and Kushalanagar to just one hour.
